So last nights training session was interesting. It ended up involving 3 bottles of wine, an entire tub of Ben &Jerrys Chubby Hubby ice-cream and a small fire!!
The wife and I met for a drink after work. It was an emergency summit to discuss the American situation. Somewhere along the lines though we managed to get ourselves pissed, so after 2 bottles of Pinot Grigio in the Pitcher & Piano we headed home for wine and ice-cream. I fell asleep on the choob and had a sudden flashback this morning of Ali poking me in the knee at Gants Hill to wake me up, but as she got off her seat she just kind of collapsed into a heap on the floor of the train!!! Hee Hee!
I vaguely remember being in Budgens buying Chubby Hubby and wine, oh and wotsits and bacon crunchies to keep us going on the journey home (all of about 5 minutes in a cab!). We went to the nearest cab office but they were far too scary so we ran off to see our man in slippers in the nice cab office but alas, he wasnt to be seen. Still we scared the cab driver on the way home and once we got in settled ourselves down in the kitchen with our goodies- wine in tumblers and ice-cream from the tub..yummy!
After that things went from bad to worse. There were several drunken renditions of I know him so well with Ali and I harmonising (were damn good at that now though!), we also sang our way through Abba, Alanis, Macy Gray, the Duets soundtrack, and our version of Spit in the Rain with Ali on guitar. Then of course we went back to more I know him so well.
The highlight of the evening though had to be our Boyfriend Bonfire. Its tradition in the fishflat that when we split up with boyfriends their photo is relegated to the pinboard and pins are strategically placed. Scary Scousers ex, Becks ex, my ex Dime, and of course Paul, are all there. Last night Ali decided she didnt want to look at the picture of Paul anymore so set light to him in her rather lovely glass candle holder. I decided that since we were having a clear out I would get rid of my pic of Dime too. So in he went.
I must say I was amazed at the size of the flames that a couple of photos and a candle can make. Its quite impressive! It started getting a bit scary so armed with a wet tea-towel we put the fire out and listened as the glass cracked and the candle holder broke into about 5 pieces and the tea-towel continued to sizzle!! Of course, this being the fishflat and the high risk to accident ratio that we have Ali ended up with an ugly bug plaster on her left thumb, a glow in the dark plaster on her left index finger and a cut on another of her digits!! And I wasnt without incident myself. Wine was spilt over the table, over CDs, letters, and Alis US$ in preparation for her trip to Boston. Whoops!
Still we are cleansed, and our pending trays are empty. All in all a successful night even if we didnt walk for 8km as planned. I think it was something we needed to do to get over last year and make 2002 a fresh start.
So heres to new beginnings and the people we love loving us back.
All together now.
Clair:
Nothing is so good it lasts eternally,
Perfect situations must go wrong,
But this have never yet prevented me,
Wanting far to much,
For far too long,
Ali:
Looking back I could have played it differently,
Won a few more moments who can tell,
But it took time to understand men,
Now at least I know, I know him well,
Wasn't it good,
Oh so good,
Wasn't he fine,
Oh so fine,
Isn't madness
he can't be mine,
But in the end he needs a little bit more than me, More, security,
