A few months ago I stopped dying my hair. I decided to let my natural colour shine through and while I was, admittedly, slightly distressed by the increasing amount of grey strands that seemed to be present, I decided to persevere and embrace my 'natural highlights'! I have had a slightly emotional year and decided that as mentally I escaped relatively unscathed, a few grey hairs was no big deal!
Oh how wrong I was!!!
Example 1: Fairy sits innocently eating her sarnie and drinking tea.
Colleague at work: "Have you done something different to your hair?"
Fairy: "Errrrrm...nope."
Colleague at work: "Are you sure coz it looks a different colour or something?"
Fairy: "Well I stopped dying it so its back to my natural colour."
Colleague at work: "What?! Grey?! Hahahahahahahahahahaha!"
And at that he exits, leaving me unsure as to whether feel offended or not considering he is younger than me and already shaves his hair completely off as he's gone bald!
Example 2: Fairy sits at her desk in work and greets customer with a smile and a friendly 'hello' and sits quite happily chatting about what sort of property she is looking for etc etc. After about 15 minutes of 'rapport building', customer looks at Fairy and says:
"Are you getting old?! Your hair's going really grey!"
Erm....hello?! I'm 27 years old goddamit....I can't help it if I got the defective genes of my father and inherited grey hair and short-sightedness!!!
So I think I may have to hit the bottle again...can't be going to all these Christmas functions and thinking that everyone is discussing how bloody grey my hair is!!!
